The 14th edition of the IPL is around the corner, but things are uncertain as there is still no clarity on the venues. As per the recent reports, the BCCI seeks to conduct the 14th edition of the league across six venues: Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Kolkata.
Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings have officially raised objections in limiting the tournament only to 6 venues. The franchises are planning to file a formal written protest to BCCI and IPL GC against the decision.
Earlier, there were reports that the entire league-stage of IPL 2021 would possibly take place in Mumbai. However, taking into consideration the increase in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, the BCCI is thinking of back-up plans. Some teams are not happy with the recent developments. The franchise representatives have stated that the idea of hosting the event in just 2-3 venues was far better.
Sources indicate that the format of the Indian Premier League is not likely to change
The forthcoming IPL season's format will have no changes. The tournament will be played in a home-and-away format. Each team is scheduled to play seven home and away games each. The upcoming edition of the IPL will have a total of 60 matches.
The competition is expected to be played between the second week of April and the opening week of June. Some venues may enable spectators up to only 50% of the stadium's capacity.
