Punjab beat Hyderabad by five wickets in the 70th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. Chasing a modest target of 158, Punjab always kept the scoring rate high, despite losing a few wickets. They had a comfortable win in the end and thus, managed to finish their season on a high note.

Winning the toss, Hyderabad decided to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium. However, they did not have the best start as they lost an early wicket. They managed to score 43 runs in the powerplay, with Abhishek Sharma (43) taking the charge of the innings, along with Rahul Tripathi. The duo added 47 runs in the partnership until the ninth over. Harpreet Brar dismissed Tripathi (20) for a team score of 61 runs.

Post that, the orange army could not build any significant partnerships. They lost a few more wickets by the 15th over, adding 96 runs on the board. Washington Sundar and Romario Shepherd then formed a strong partnership, to pull the team back into the game. In the end, they lost a couple of more wickets but managed to score 157 runs on the board. Brar and Nathan Ellis each grabbed three wickets in the game, while Kagiso Rabada took one.

Punjab scored runs at a good rate in the chase, but lost early wickets. They scored 62 runs in the first six overs, but lost two wickets in the process. In the eighth over, they also lost skipper Mayank Agarwal (one) for a team score of 71.  Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone then put on a crucial 41-run partnership until the 13th over. Dhawan (39) was dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi.

The equation came down to 38 runs in seven overs. In the end, Liam Livingstone (49) was dropped a few times, which cost Hyderabad the match. He kept striking the ball and helped the team to a comfortable win in the 16th over.
