Future WTC should have a best of three final: Ravi Shastri

In a virtual press conference, Ravi Shastri opined that the upcoming editions of WTC should have a best of three finals. The Indian squad left for a nearly four-month-long tour late yesterday. The tour would start with the Indian team clashing with New Zealand in the WTC final. It would be followed by a five-match test series against England.

Ahead of the summit clash, Ravi Shastri favored the idea of best of three final in future WTC editions. He reasoned that a best of three final would be ideal as the summing up of 2-3 years of hard work. He further stated that both the teams have earned their rights to play in the final. It did not happen overnight that the teams grabbed the top 2 positions in the ICC Test rankings. At present, India is the top team in the Test format according to ICC rankings. On the other hand, New Zealand grabbed the second spot in the rankings.

The World Test Championship final would be a big game if not the biggest ever: Ravi Shastri

New Zealand was the first team that got qualified for the World Test Championship final. India on the other hand had to face some setbacks coming close to qualifying. After getting defeated by New Zealand India had to win Tests against Australia and England to secure their position in the WTC final. The Indian team gave an extraordinary performance against Australia. India created history by defeating Australia in Gabba and getting a step closer to qualifying for the WTC final.

The Indian team next secured a win against England in a home Test series. It was the ultimate match that secured India’s position in the final against New Zealand. Thereby, both the teams worked hard to over the two years to play in the inaugural World Test Championship final. The title clash would be at Rose Bowl stadium In Southampton. The one-off Test would start from 18th June.

According to Ravi Shastri, the WTC final would be one of the biggest games in the history of Cricket. The magnitude of the game and the fact that it is the first edition of the championship make it all more important. He concluded that this championship has tested and challenged the final two teams over two years. Both the teams have earned their position in the championship. It would be an exciting and eventful match for the fans of both teams.
