Ravindra Jadeja has been in some form in the tour of Australia. The boy from Saurashtra has been instrumental in both the victories against Australia. In the last ODI, Jadeja and Pandya’s match-winning partnership of 150 helped India to win against Australia. Moreover, in the 1st T20I, Jadeja’s quickfire 44 off just 23 balls helped India cruise to a total of 161. Jadeja has also been quite economical with the ball. In the ODI series, Jadeja had an average economy of 6. This is quite decent considering the ODI format.

Unfortunately, Jadeja was unable to bowl in the 1st T20I against Australia. In the final over, Jadeja got struck by the ball on his helmet. Due to this, Jadeja started feeling dizzy and could not continue anymore. In his place, Yuzvendra Chahal was added to the starting line-up. Chahal was superb against Australia as he picked 3 wickets, conceding just 25 runs in 4 overs.

I have nothing but appreciation for Jadeja: Gambhir

The former Indian cricketer is extremely impressed with Jadeja’s recent performances against Australia. Moreover, he believes that Jadeja should be pushed up to play no 5. Because Jadeja has batted really well recently, Gambhir believes that the team should utilize a player in form. With Jadeja at 5, Kohli would bat at 4, and KL Rahul at 3. Gambhir believes that Jadeja could give some consistent performances with the bat if given the chance. He has done it in the past and has the ability to do it in the future as well.

Gambhir has backed Jadeja, stating that he has proved himself in both the red and white ball cricket format. Moreover, with Jadeja playing up top, India could add an all-rounder like Axar Patel or Krunal Pandya to the team. This, in, the turn could help the team pick up a wicket or two while running down the overs.

Ravindra Jadeja is out of the remaining T20I games against Australia. The BCCI has stated in a release that Jadeja will be kept under observation. The decision on the diagnosis is corroborated and further scans will take place if needed.

India beat Australia in the 1st T20I to take a 1-0 lead. The starting line-up is unknown as of now. They will go in the next match wanting to clinch the series. However, with Jadeja out, India will look to depend on Chahal to replicate his performance. It might also be that Shardul Thakur gets a chance to play the 2nd T20I.
