In a time when video game releases are filled with bugs and feel overpriced, gamers are shifting towards indie gaming titles for a single-player gaming experience. One such action rougelike game is Skul: The Hero Slayer.
Recently, the game has announced that it has reached 2 million in sales since its release back in 2021. Thanks to its unique gameplay/art style paired with regular discounts it has attracted many gamers over the years.
This has now put the game among other top-tier game lists. Games like these are getting more traction outside their fanbase as they do not require high-end, expensive hardware to run and are quite fun to play.
Skul: The Hero Slayer surpasses 2 million copies in sales
The developers, Southpaw Games in their announcement, said, “We are beyond excited to announce that Skul: The Hero Slayer has surpassed 2 million copies in sales. This is another huge record achieved since we announced that Skul sold 1 million copies last year. We would like to express sincere gratitude to everyone for playing Skul and giving tremendous support up until now.”
The game has also received several updates since release and follows a story of a skeleton warrior fighting against forces of humanity serving the demon king. The plot is quite interesting, as games usually put players in the shoes of heroes instead of forces opposing them.
Featuring a 2D action platformer gameplay paired with roguelike elements and retro pixel graphics art style, the game attracted many players, as roguelike games have become quite popular among gamers.
To celebrate the success, the developers have also announced a 50% discount on an already affordable game for basically the entire month of January on the game, as the devs believe that everyone should be able to try the game at least once.
There are other games similar to Skul like Hades, Hollow Knight, Terraria and others that have their own unique story and gameplay that will leave an impression on the players of indie games.
