Babar Azam is currently leading the Pakistan team in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, he failed to guide his team properly so far as Pakistan managed to win only one out of their three matches. Meanwhile, Pakistan failed to win against Zimbabwe in the World Cup by one run.

After that humiliating loss, former players criticized Babar Azam and his men heavily. Regarding that, Gautam Gambhir called out the Pakistan skipper as ‘Selfish.’ The former Indian batter said that he needs to focus on his team rather than on himself. Now, in response to that, Wasim Akram came up with a reply.

That's his opinion.” - Wasim Akram on Gautam Gambhir

During the commentary of Pakistan's match vs Netherlands, Gautam Gambhir said: "In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish.”

“It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team" Gambhir added. In reply to that, Wasim Akram said that the former Indian opener is entitled to his own opinion. “That's his opinion. Gautam Gambhir himself being a successful captain in the Indian T20 League. Winning twice with KKR. One of the top players of his time, everybody is, I suppose has a right to give their opinion. And that's his opinion.” Wasim Akram said.

However, along with Gambhir, many former cricketers have looked to suggest Babar Azam bat in the middle order. They wanted Fakhar Zaman to open the innings instead of any of the two openers. However, Fakhar Zaman played the last match against Zimbabwe. He scored 20 runs off 16 balls, including three fours. The Netherlands scored 91 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. The Men in Green chased it down in just 13.5 overs with six wicks to spare.
