The mini-auction for the 14th edition of the IPL is scheduled for February 18, in Chennai. All eight IPL teams have been making strategies and plan to rope in their desired players. The Chennai Super Kings are going to be one of the franchises to watch out for at the auction. CSK will have a massive task at their hands to replace players like Harbhajan Singh, Shane Watson, and Kedar Jadhav. Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir proposed a couple of picks for the team.

The Chennai based franchise finished seventh last season. The team will be looking to bounce back stronger this season and make it to the playoffs once again after missing out for the first time last year. Gautam Gambhir reckons that Suresh Raina's return will strengthen the batting line-up. The former Indian batsman skipped IPL 2020 due to personal reasons. Robin Uthappa's addition will also significantly boost CSK's batting line-up that struggled massively last year.

Chennai Super Kings don’t have many gaps to fill: Gautam Gambhir

Despite having finished 7th on the points table last season, Gambhir believes that the "Yellow Army" does not have many gaps to fill. The team already has Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, and Mitchell Santner in their ranks. Gambhir feels that the addition of an Indian all-rounder will be important, to add more depth to CSK's line-up. He suggested that Krishnappa Gowtham can be one of the all-rounders CSK could go after in the auctions. Gowtham is an off-spinner and a handy batsman who was released by Kings XI Punjab this year.

CSK also has one overseas slot left to fill, and Gambhir feels selecting someone like Chris Morris can help the team as a back-up option for Bravo. West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo had to deal with a lot of injury issues last season. Gambhir also went with Umesh Yadav as one of the good options for CSK as the side also needs an experienced Indian bowler.
