Former India opening batter Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to inform his fans and followers that he has been tested positive for COVID-19. Gambhir added that he is experiencing mild symptoms of the deadly disease, which is spreading quickly in India. Fans and well-wishers have wished him for speedy recovery.
The Delhi-born player made his debut for India in 2003 against Bangladesh and was also a part of the inaugural T20 World Cup-winning team in South Africa in 2007. He was also part of the ODI World Cup 2011 winning team in the sub-continent. He solidified his place as a Test opener as India went on to become the World No. 1 in the longest format under MS Dhoni in 2009.
After his retirement from the game in 2018, he contested the 2019 general election for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from East Delhi and won against candidates such as Atishi Marlena and Arvinder Singh Lovely. Meanwhile, the former World Number one Test batter has urged everyone to stay safe and asked his close contacts to get themselves tested.
“After experiencing mild symptoms, I tested positive for COVID today. Requesting everyone who came into my contact to get themselves tested,” he tweeted.
