Royal Challengers Bangalore opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal had a phenomenal IPL season last year in UAE. The left-handed batsman entered the ongoing season of the tournament on the back of a successful domestic season. Ahead of IPL 2021, the Karnataka batsman had tested positive for Covid-19. He was undergoing home quarantine. After returning three negative Covid-19 tests, the youngster joined RCB's team bubble in Chennai. In his first IPL season, Padikkal managed to leave a good impression. The 22-year-old scored 473 runs from 15 matches at an average of 31.53, with his best score being 74.

In the tournament opener, Bangalore missed the services of their opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal. In his absence, RCB went ahead with a new opening pair of Washington Sundar and skipper Virat Kohli. The youngster made his way back into the team for the next two games against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). In those two matches, he managed to score only 36 runs. The 21-year-old would now be hoping to get into his groove.

In an interaction with ANI, Devdutt Padikkal talked about his goals in the ongoing season. He also spoke about his bond with star players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Padikkal added that he idolises 2011 World Cup-winning hero Gautam Gambhir. The youngster also stated that he still watches the veteran opener's batting. The Karnataka batsman says that he is inspired by every cricketer who has represented the country. Still, he believes that the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain had a lasting impression on shaping his cricket journey.

In IPL 2021, Royal Challengers Bangalore is experiencing a dream run for the first time in the history of IPL. The side has won all their three league games and is proudly sitting at the top of the points table. Speaking about the same, Devdutt Padikkal acknowledged that the side has a balanced squad and there is a real togetherness among the players. The Karnataka batsman also believes that RCB has a perfect blend of batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders. Royal Challengers Bangalore star players Devdutt Padikkal and Washington Sundar have also signed a deal with the sportswear giant PUMA. The two young players have now joined the likes of AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Yuvraj Singh and women's national cricketer Sushma Verma as brand ambassadors for the brand.
