Australian pacer Pat Cummins admired the spirit with which Gautam Gambhir led KKR to their second IPL title win in 2014. Under Gambhir's captaincy, Kolkata won the competition in 2012 and 2014, defeating CSK and Punjab Kings in the finals, respectively. Pat Cummins, who played his first IPL back in the year 2014, said he loved playing under Gautam Gambhir's captainship. The KKR fast bowler on his Instagram story stated that his favorite IPL moment was winning the trophy in 2014.

KKR ropes in Gurkeerat Singh as a substitute for Rinku Singh

Last week, Kolkata signed up batsman Gurkeerat Singh Mann as a replacement for Rinku Singh, who will be unavailable for the entire IPL 2021 season due to a knee injury. KKR has attained Gurkeerat at his base price of Rs 50 lakhs. The upcoming 14th edition will be Gurkeerat's eighth IPL season. Singh's replacement, Gurkeerat, last featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020. The 23-year-old was released ahead of the IPL 2021 mini-auction. He managed to score only 71 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 88.75. In 41 IPL matches so far, Gurkeerat has accumulated 511 runs at a strike rate of 121.09 and an average of 21.29.

Talking about Pat Cummins, he had finished IPL 2020 with 12 wickets from all the 14 games that he had featured in. He has also scored 146 runs at a strike rate of 128.07, including a fifty. The Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to make the playoffs in the last two IPL seasons. Thus, it will be interesting to see if the side breaks the jinx this time around in their quest to win a third IPL title.

The Eoin Morgan-led side will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against SRH at MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11. The Indian Premier League will commence on April 9, with RCB and MI locking horns in the tournament opener.
