On 14 December 2022, team India began their two-match Test series in Chattogram, Bangladesh. In order to get qualified for the final of the World Test Championship, this series is going to be a crucial one for the Men in Blue. However, they dealt with a blow as Rohit Sharma missed this match due to his thumb injury.

In his absence, KL Rahul got the chance to lead the team. He won the toss and opted to bat first. For India, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings. Speaking about Gill, he had enjoyed a great 2022 with the bat for team India, especially in the ODI format. So, fans were hoping for an excellent year-end also from this batter.

Shubman Gill scored his maiden Test ton in the second innings of the first Test

Speaking of India’s first innings, team India got bundled out for 404 runs in 133.5 overs in the first innings. Iyer got out on 86 runs off 192 balls. Then, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav put up a solid partnership of 92 runs. After scoring 58 runs off 113 balls, including two balls and two sixes, Ashwin got out. While Kuldeep scored 40 runs off 114 balls, including five fours. But, Gill only managed 20 runs off 40 balls. In reply, Bangladesh batters failed to bat properly as they got bundled out for just 150 runs in 55.5 overs. 

Kuldeep Yadav picked up five wickets for 40 runs in 16 overs. Along with him, Mohammed Siraj also grabbed three wickets. Hence, India got a lead of 254 runs. KL Rahul had a chance to enforce the follow-on on the Bangla tigers. But, he decided to bat again. Then, in India’s second innings, Shubman Gill did not disappoint as he scored his maiden Test ton off 147 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. He also stitched up a 100-run partnership with Pujara for the second wicket. However, he got out after scoring 110 runs off 152 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes.
