The dream run for the Mumbai outfit continue in the Women's T20 League. They registered their fifth consecutive win in as many games on Tuesday. They look like a strong contender to finish on top of the table and qualify for the finals with the win.

After putting to bat first by the Gujarat-based franchise, the Mumbai outfit felt the pressure in the first over itself. They lost the in-form Hayley Matthews to Gardner’s delivery. However, Yastika Bhatia and Nat-Sciver Brunt did not allow the side to crumble as both stitched a 74-run partnership for the second wicket. Though they both fell in quick succession, the captain of the side, Harmanpreet Kaur, kept the run rate soaring.

She scored a quick-fire 51 from 30 deliveries before getting dismissed in the final over. As other middle-order batters failed to fire, the Mumbai team could post only 162 on the board for the loss of eight wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Ashleigh Gardner was the most successful bowler amongst the lot as she picked three wickets while conceding 34 runs in her quota of four overs.

Chasing a competitive total, the Gujarat-based outfit did not get a flying start. Sophia Dunkley was dismissed on the first ball of the chase, whereas they were three down by the end of the powerplay. The run rate pressure because of their defensive batting did not help them either. There were three duck outs in the innings which made Gujarat’s life much more miserable.

The failure of the likes of Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner with the bat derailed Gujarat’s chase. Despite some late fightback by Sneh Rana and Sushma Verma, it was never enough as they lost the game by 65 runs at Brabourne. Nat-Sciver Brunt was successful with the ball as well as she picked three wickets for 21 runs in her quota of four overs. Hayley Matthews also picked three wickets to dismantle Gujarat’s batting line-up and their chase.
