Glenn Maxwell was one key KXIP player who failed to deliver this season. Enduring a rather dismal IPL, Maxwell was clearly not at his best. With the highest score of just 32, Maxwell only managed to put up 108 runs in 11 innings. Averaging just 15.42, Maxwell played so poorly that failed to register a single six this season.
Just before the IPL, Maxwell smashed an impressive 186 runs in just 3 innings. His heroics in the third match, wherein he hit 108 runs against England showed how in-form the all-rounder was.
With such high hopes from Maxwell, everyone required that the Australian display similar match winnings in IPL 2020. The IPL 2018 was also not Maxwell’s best season. He played 13 matches that season, scoring only 169 runs in total. With an even lower average of 14.08 this season, it can be inferred that Maxwell has had a couple of rough years in the IPL.
Maxwell optimistic about his performance in BBL and against India
Glenn Maxwell believes that his dismal IPL performance occurred largely due to the pressure situations in which he came to bat. He states that batting in such situations is highly risky because you either push your team to a decent score or else you risk your wicket chasing a high total.
With the BBL set to commence in December, Maxwell has fully shifted his focus on the Australian Cricket League. Maxwell has been appointed captain of Melbourne Stars this season. With the introduction of new rules this season, Maxwell believes that BBL 2020-21 will be an exciting one.
Maxwell reckons that he is still trying to figure out his actual position in the team. He states that in order to perform well in BBL 2020-21, he needs to put the IPL shocker behind. He also has an opportunity to impress ahead of the series against India.
In his test career, Maxwell has played 4 test matches against India, wherein he scored 198 runs in total. As for his ODI and T20 stats, he has scored 756 and 353 runs respectively in both the formats. Maxwell is also the 5th highest run-getter in BBL history. We all know that Maxwell, at his peak, could win matches on his day. He can also be a lethal bowler for his team at times. With such terrific stats to his name, Maxwell could manage to revive his old form against India and in the BBL.
