Australia hasn't been able to win a Test series against India since the 2014-15 series at home. Since then, both teams have played three series and the Aussies have won as many games so far. Notably, the 2014-15 series was the last time MS Dhoni played Test cricket. In 2017, both teams fought well but the home team, India won the series after winning the last game.

In 2018-19, the then Virat Kohli-led side was the biggest contender to win the series. However, the only challenge they had was to bat well. They overcame the challenge and won the series 2-1 for the first time down under. A couple of years later, they did it again even after losing most of their main players to injuries. Now, the teams will next play each other in India in February-March next year.

Ahead of the series, former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath has said the biggest challenge for the Kangaroos will be to win the series in India.

“Obviously the single biggest challenge for Australia is coming to India, performing well and winning the series. We were lucky enough to do it in 2004. You’ve got to come up with good plans, the batsmen have to learn to adapt on turning pitches and the bowlers have to learn to bowl in those conditions," McGrath was quoted as saying by cricket.com.

Australia has a better understanding of subcontinent wickets: Glenn McGrath

The three-time ODI World Cup winner, on the other hand, has said that thanks to the Indian T20 League, the Australian team has the idea of the subcontinent pitches.

“I think with IPL, a lot of players have been over here (in India) regularly and have hence experienced the conditions. The current Australian team, evident from their showings in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, are starting to get a better understanding of how to play on subcontinent wickets. That being said, India is still the ultimate challenge. I think they’re up for it," he added.
