Glenn McGrath considers that the visitors need to make some changes for the upcoming Boxing Day Test. Team India's morale will be incredibly low after the shocking defeat in the first Test at Adelaide Oval.
Despite having a 53-run lead from the first innings, the team India's batting suffered a sensational collapse in the second. The entire Indian team bundled out for just 36 runs. The Australian line-up quickly chased down their 90-run target. Opening batsman Joe Burns announced his return to form with a half-century after recording a comfortable victory for the side.
Captain Kohli is heading back to India now, as he awaits the birth of his first child. McGrath believes Kohli's absence will be a significant loss for the side. He also believes that it is going to be a good opportunity for someone else to step up.
The legendary pacer feels Rahul could be a great option to replace Kohli at the Number 4 spot.
Glenn McGrath believes Shubman Gill can be the potential change
Glenn McGrath agrees that the 21-year-old was impressive in the two practice games that he played against Australia A. Gill managed to score few runs under his belt and was also expected to open with Agarwal in the 1st Test.
Thus, it was quite a shock for the fans and some of the cricket experts when Shaw got the nod ahead of him for the first encounter. His comments came after India vividly lost the first day-night Test in Adelaide by 8 wickets.
Things changed drastically, and, in a matter of an hour, Hazlewood and Cummins made a mockery of the Indian batting line-up. They bowled them out for their lowest ever score of 36 in Test cricket. It took the hosts only 21 overs to chase down the target of 90.
The Indian team has now registered their lowest score in the game's most extended format. Their previous lowest score in this format was against England back in 1974.
Now after Kohli's unavailability and Shaw's horror show in the 1st Test match, McGrath feels that Gill will receive a call-up for the 2nd Test. The visitors will now be hoping to come back stronger. The second Test match between India and Australia is going to take place from December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
