In a sensational promotional activity, Lionel Messi showed off his special edition GOAT boots manufactured by Adidas. The boots, made specifically for Messi have a GOAT motif on them. The viral photos of the boot, beautifully designed with gold accents, have gone viral all over the internet with fans flooding the comment sections.
Football fans may still remember the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, but for the Argentine team, it's now in the past as they get ready to defend their title this week. In their first big game since winning the World Cup in December last year, Messi's team will face Ecuador at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. This year, Messi is participating in his sixth World Cup qualifiers. The match against Ecuador will also be Messi's first game with the Argentina team since he joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami earlier this summer. In their second World Cup qualifier, the defending champions will take on Bolivia in La Paz.
Lionel Messi is one of three MLS players called up for Argentina
Messi, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, is one of three MLS players selected by the Argentina team management for the first two rounds of the World Cup qualifiers. Alongside Messi, Thiago Almada from Atlanta United and Alan Velasco from FC Dallas are also part of Argentina's World Cup qualifiers squad. Argentina's coach, Lionel Scaloni, has assembled a 32-man squad that includes notable players such as midfielder Angel Di Maria, defender Nicolas Otamendi, and Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.
With the significant pressure of defending their title, the beginning of the qualifiers could pose challenges for Argentina. In an interview with AFA Estudio, Scaloni acknowledged, “What is coming is very difficult, the start is always complicated. Hopefully, the players get here healthy and the fans enjoy seeing the national team. We are going to complete, which is what we like to do. For us as a coaching staff, it’s always a pleasure to receive them. And that the fans could also enjoy them, have them close to them.”
