Real Madrid, on Saturday, lifted their record 35th La Liga title. Real Madrid extended their championship-winning streak to 35 with a dominant 4-0 performance against Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu. Rodrygo shone in a high-stakes encounter, scoring twice in ten minutes to put Madrid in a comfortable position. Notably, Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti rested a few key players ahead of the Champions League semi-final match against Manchester City.
Despite the many changes, the men in white had enough experience in their starting lineup, with Luka Modric, Thibaut Courtois, and Marcelo. Rodrygo scored the game's first goal in the 33rd minute, after a great play with Marcelo. Espanyol suffered another goal in the 43rd minute as Mariano Diaz rushed to regain possession of the ball. Rodrygo's superb finish caught Espanyol goalkeeper Diego Lopez off guard after collecting the ball from Diaz. The lead was further extended in the 55th minute.
Following a rapid counter-attack, Asensio tucked the ball into the back of the net after receiving an amazing assist from Eduardo Camavinga. Isco also struck the back of the net, but Rodrygo was in the off-side position. However, Benzema scored Real Madrid's fourth goal in the 81st minute.
With the victory, their Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti became the first manager to win all of Europe's top five leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France). With 24 championships, Marcelo became Real Madrid's most successful player. "We have won as early as possible, and that is everyone’s job to be celebrated. Today we have to celebrate, but we have an important game ahead. There is nothing to worry about if we do it right," he said in the post-match interview.
