Earlier, a few of the most successful Indian skippers like Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli had led Team India in the final of the marquee international tournaments.

Notably, the upcoming highly anticipated World Test Championship 2023 final between India and Australia will also be the first-ever final to lead the team for Rohit Sharma in any major international tournament.
