Team India consisting of the brilliant trio of Saurava Ghoshal, Abhay Singh, and Mahesh Mangaonkar created history in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 by clinching the gold medal for the country. Team India defeated the arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the team’s event of squash competition in the Asian Games 2023.

Notably, it is the second gold medal in squash for India at the Asian Games; the last time, they won it was nine years back in the year 2014 in the Incheon Asian Games. At that time, the men’s team defeated Malaysia to secure their hand on the shiniest medal.

This time, the gold-medal is victory is also special for the Indians as it has come against the masters of the squash and their arch-rivals, Pakistan.

The fans had to wait till the last second of the match for the result of this thrilling encounter between two Asian Squash superpowers. The Indian side ended up winning the final by a margin of 2-1 against Pakistan.

Abhay Singh's stunning comeback guides India to second squash gold in Asian Games

Mahesh Mangaonkar lost the first match of the day against Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal. But it was also the time when the veteran star Saurav Ghoshal took charge and brought India back into the game. He completely outplayed Muhammad Asim Khan in the clear sets by the huge margins of 11-5, 11-1, and 11-3.

After the scores levelled at 1-1, the medal decider was played between India’s Abhay Singh and Pakistan’s young rising squash star Noor Zaman, who is only 19 years old. Abhay and Zaman produced one of the historic faceoffs in the history of squash at the Asian Games.

However, Abhay Singh won the first game by 11-7 and took the lead of 1-0 but Zaman didn’t give the former any chance in the next two sets and ended up winning by 11-9 and 11-8, taking a lead of 2-1.

Now, it was a do-or-die situation for Abhay Singh as he had to win both the remaining sets to bring gold for India and he didn’t disappoint the hopes of the billions of Indians. The fans witnessed up and down battle in the last two games but eventually, it was Abhay Singh who had the last laugh.
