Oval Invincibles beat Northern Superchargers in a nail-biting thriller by three wickets in the ninth match of the Hundred 2022. A brilliant bowling performance, followed by a challenging chase helped the Invincibles get their second win of the season.
Batting first, Northern Superchargers had a great start, with Adam Lyth leading the way for the team. Despite regular wickets on the other end, he continued to hold the strike and score runs for Superchargers. Lyth did not get much support from his teammates, while he attacked the opposition. He ended with a score of 79 runs in 32 balls, including three fours and eight sixes.
On the other hand, the Invincibles were at the top with the ball. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers, as he picked three wickets at an economy rate of just 0.55 runs per ball. Matt Milnes, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, and Reece Topley also got a wicket each. The Superchargers ended with a score of 157 runs in the first innings.
In the chase, Invincibles were down three wickets for a score of just 21 in 20 balls. Jordan Cox and Sam Curran then built a partnership which got them back in the game. They added 67 runs to the partnership before Cox (48) was dismissed just before completing his half-century.
Curran (60), on the other hand, completed his fifty, but was dismissed shortly after for a team score of 137 runs. His brother, Tom Curran (18), then continued the job for his team and took them across the winning line. Invincibles eventually won the match with three wickets and as many balls to spare.
Dwayne Bravo was the standout of the bowlers for the bowling side, with the figures of 29/2 in 20 balls. In the match, David Wiese, Adil Rashid, Craig Miles, and Ben Raine all took a wicket. After the match, Oval Invincibles moved to the second spot in the league standings with four points. On the other hand, Northern Superchargers stands fifth with two points.
