India continued their winning steak against Pakistan and defeated arch-rivals by 107 runs in their world cup opener.
India skipper Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to bat first. The two-time finalists had a horror start as they lost the wicket of explosive opener Shafali Verma (0) at the team score of four runs at the end of the third over. Deepti Sharma (40) joined hands with opener Smriti Mandhana and the duo added 88 runs before the former was dismissed by Nashra Sandhu.
Mandhana (52) followed soon which triggered a collapse as India were left tottering at 114/6. Harmanpreet Kaur (5), wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh (1), and skipper Raj (9) couldn't create any impact on the game. Pooja Vastarkar (67) and Sneh Rana (53*) added 122 runs for the seventh wicket, the highest partnership for India in the World Cups for the seventh wicket. In the last over, Vastrakar was dismissed and the team amassed a respectable 244/7 on the board.
For Pakistan, Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu took two wickets while Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, and Anam Amin took one each. In reply, Pakistan had a slow start with only 26/0 in the powerplay. They lost the first wicket in the 11th over and kept losing the wickets in the regular intervals. The Bismah Maroof-led side were restricted to 137 all-out with Rajeshwari Gayakwad taking four wickets. Other bowlers such as Jhulan Goswami and Sneh Rana took two each while Meghna Singh and Deepti Sharma took one each.

What a win. This would feel very satisfying considering India were in trouble at 114/6. To win by 107 runs and start the World Cup Campaign with a bang is a splendid effort by @BCCIWomen #INDvPAK pic.twitter.com/jXIJsRwH8E
