Gujarat name this ace player as their vice-captain for Indian T20 League 2022

The new entrant Gujarat will start its campaign against Lucknow on March 28. The team will be led by Hardik Pandya, his first stint as a captain in any form of the game. The game will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ahead of the auction, the team added the likes of Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill in the team.

During the mega auction last month, the team signed players such as Mohammed Shami, Jason Roy, Lockie Ferguson, Rahul Tewatia, Jayant Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Alzarri Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan, Wriddhiman Saha, David Miller, Matthew Wade, etc. Notably, Roy pulled out of the cash-rich league citing bio-bubble fatigue and was replaced by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

On the other hand, players like Joseph and Miller won't be available due to various reasons. The former is unavailable for the first game as he is currently playing for the West Indies against England. Miller is in three-day quarantine after coming to India. Meanwhile, the team has announced Rashid Khan as their vice-captain for the upcoming season.

The leg-spinner from Afghanistan has never led a team before. However, he was presented the opportunity to lead the national team ahead of the 20-20 World Cup 2021. Khan decided to step down right after his appointment and was replaced by Mohammad Nabi. Coming back to the ITL, this will be his Khan's second team in the cash-rich league. After making his debut for Hyderabad in 2017, he played for the team till last year. In this period, he picked 93 wickets in 76 games at a strike rate of 130 down the order.
