On Saturday, May 20, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will play the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens while sporting a special edition Mohun Bagan Indian Super League outfit. The news was made via a special Instagram post with the following caption and the captains Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, and Ayush Badoni: "Lucknow's #GazabAndaz, now in Kolkata's colours. Our tribute to Mohun Bagan and the City of Joy."

In June 2020, the RPSG (RP-Sanjiv Goenka group) of Lucknow acquired the bulk of the shares of the football team ATK Mohun Bagan. Beginning on June 1, the storied Kolkata club will adopt the name Mohun Bagan Super Giants. In the SA20, they also own Durban's Super Giants.

LSG are ahead of KKR in the qualification race in IPL 2023

The now-defunct Rising Pune Super Giants (RPSG) was RPSG's first-ever sports franchise. They competed in the IPL in 2016 and 2017, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) were suspended for a while due to match-fixing and betting practices. Along with RPSG, another squad called itself Gujarat Lions (GL).

The Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) May 16 victory over the five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) by just five runs has put them in a position to qualify for the IPL 2023. This came after spirited batting performances by Marcus Stoinis (89* off 47 balls) and Krunal Pandya (49* off 42 deliveries), as well as Mohsin Khan's great final over in which he held on to an 11-run lead.

With 15 points after 13 games and seven victories, LSG are currently in third place. One of their games, against the Chennai Super Kings, was postponed due to inclement weather. Based on the net run rate, they are a little behind CSK.

If Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeats Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 18 and prevents Bangalore from accruing 16 points, the team will automatically advance to the competition's knockout round. If not, LSG must defeat KKR to advance. Lucknow may finish in the top two in the points table, only behind the Gujarat Titans (GT), the defending champions, with a convincing victory over Kolkata.
