There was a lot of pressure for him to be included in the Indian starting XI for the WTC final match against Australia, but Ishan Kishan declined to play for the East Zone side in the Duleep Trophy competition since he had a series in the West Indies coming up in a month. The team will be captained by Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will be assisted by spinner Shahbaz Nadeem.
Ishan Kishan's refusal to participate in the first-class competition, which is taking place shortly prior to the two-Test series in the Caribbean beginning on July 12, confused East Zone selectors.
One of the East India squad selectors spoke to PTI regarding this decision of Ishan Kishan and he said, "Since he was in India squad for WTC final and KS Bharat, the man who kept wickets is playing for South Zone, we asked Zonal selection committee convenor Debasish Chakraborty to tell us if we could select Kishan."
He further added the discussions in the selection room regarding the decision. He said, "As he is a senior India regular in white ball, he would have got the captaincy. Chakraborty got in touch with Ishan over phone and came back and told us that he is not interested in playing Duleep Trophy. We were not told if he has an injury or not. Just that he doesn't want to play."
Kishan participated in all three of the ODIs versus New Zealand since KL Rahul was unable to play, and he then appeared in all three of the T20Is against the same team. In addition, he was India's backup wicketkeeper for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in February and March. He then participated in one match during the ODI series against Australia.
As soon as his international obligations were through, Kishan played in all 16 of Mumbai Indians' IPL 2023 games, from the league stage through to Qualifier 2. Rahul missed the most recent World Test Championship Final because of a right thigh injury that required surgery; Kishan was selected to fill Rahul's spot in the Indian team and left for London after Mumbai's IPL 2023 season was finished.

Paaji your take on this . @vikrantgupta73

Too much and too early money has spoilt these kids. On top he knows his captain will select him irrespective of what his form is.
This is entitlement. These guys know they will be selected even if they don't play domestic cricket. Why didn't he skip IPL if he needed rest? @BCCI

Every Indian team player should play atleast few matches of domestic...

He could have cemented his place in the test team with a good performance in Duleep Trophy. Looks like he would rather prefer to spend his time on bench in limited overs cricket

— VK18 🐐 (@Pakratkohli) June 17, 2023

Always wondered how did SRT & so many others were able to play so many matches for over 2 decades. They never complained of the workload.
