Faf Du Plessis is one of the most loved cricketers from South Africa. The batter burst onto the scene in the ODI series against India in 2011 and quickly sealed his place in the national side. He scored a half-century in his very first International game against India and announced his arrival to the international cricket in style.

The batter made his first Test hundred on his debut against Australia in 2012 at the Adelaide Oval. Du Plessis scored 110 off 376 balls as he helped his team bat out the entire day and draw the game.

Right from his early days, Du Plessis was the player to watch out for as he had that spark of being a great player in him. His impressive performances over the years also earned him the much-coveted honour of captaining the national side. He also became the second batter from South Africa to score a hundred in T20 internationals in 2015.

One of his most memorable knocks in Test cricket came against India at Johannesberg in 2013 as he scored a magnificent 134 in the fourth innings of the Test that helped South Africa come close to the record of chasing the highest successful total ever in the history of Test cricket of 458, of which they fell short by 8 runs as the game ended in a draw.

The 38-year-old batter has a good fan following in India as he played for the Chennai Franchise in the Indian T20 league. The former South African skipper has played many memorable knocks for the franchise earning him praises on many occasions from the fans.

The batter retired from Test cricket in 2021 after leading his side in 36 Tests. Du Plessis hasn’t retired from the limited overs format but is not being picked by the South African board due to a rift with them.

The batter is celebrating his 38th birthday today. Here’s how Twitter is wishing the South African.
