Former Jamaica sprinter Usain Bolt has turned 36 years old today. He was born on August 21, 1986, in Montego Bay in Jamaica. Before becoming a champion athlete, he was a pacer in his pre-teen years. He developed his love for football later on but his school coaches asked him to take track and field. The Jamaican started his journey in 2002 as a junior player in the World Junior Championships.
Interestingly enough, he won a Gold medal in the tournament at the age of 15. Next year, the Montego Bay-born made a record of completing the 200-meter race in just 20.13 seconds. He then went on to break this record at the age of 17 (19.93 sec). He also made it to the 2004 Athens Olympics made couldn't advance to the further stages due to a hamstring injury.
Four years later, he completed his 100-meter race in just 9.76 seconds. However, the record stayed for only four weeks as he went on to break the record in New York by completing the same event in just 9.72 seconds. About a month later, during the Beijing Olympic Games, the first man since American Carl Lewis in 1984 to win the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4 × 100-meter relays in a single Olympics and the first ever to set world records (9.69 sec, 19.30 sec, and 37.10 sec, respectively) in all three events.
Failed drug test by one of his teammates led him to lose a Gold medal
Not every time it was the case when he achieved one feat or the other. Apparently failed drug test by one of his teammates in the 4 × 100 events meant that his Gold medal was taken back in the 2008 Summer Games. At the 2009 world championships, Bolt shattered his 100-meter record, winning the event final in 9.58 sec. Four days later he broke his own 200-meter record by the same 0.11-sec margin to win a second gold medal at the world championships. He retired from the game in 2017
