T Natarajan got rid of Sai Sudarshan in the 6th over to provide Hyderabad with their second breakthrough.

Hardik Pandya then started to play the anchor role in the innings as he joined Matthew Wade in the middle. Soon after, Wade also departed for a team score of 64 in the 8th over. This was Umran Malik's first wicket of the season. Pandya stood firm and kept on milking runs. While he wasn't at his fluent best, he scored boundaries whenever the team needed it. He got a bit of support from David Miller and Abhinav Manohar. Miller was dismissed by Marco Jansen in the 14th over for a team score of 104. The skipper went on to score his first fifty of the season. He scored 50 runs in 42 balls with four fours and a six. Towards the end, Manohar added 35 important runs in 21 balls to help the team reach a reputable total of 162-7.

In the chase, Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma gave another slow but sensible start to Hyderabad. They added 42 runs together in the powerplay. Sharma played a fluent inning and made up for the slow start. He was dismissed by Rashid Khan a team score of 64 in the 9th over for 42. Tripathi joined Williamson in the middle and the two played some good shots. However, Tripathi pulled a muscle while hitting a six in the 14th over and returned to the dressing room. The skipper raced to fifty in the 16th over with a six. With 34 runs needed in four overs, Hyderabad had the grip on the match. Even though Williamson was dismissed doon after scoring a 50, a short cameo by Nicholas Pooran helped Hyderabad to win the game. He scored 34 runs in 18 balls and hit the winning six to seal the deal for Gujarat.
