Rashid Khan is unarguably one of the best T20 players of this era. An outstanding bowler, an aggressive batter and a superb fielder, it is safe to call the Afghan sensation an absolute package. He has a knack for single-handedly winning games in the shortest format of the game.
Thus, he went on to become one of Hyderabad's best players. However, the 2016-champions shockingly chose not to retain him ahead of the Indian T20 league 2022 mega auction. Their decision was baffling, to say the least. Nevertheless, Gujarat took the opportunity and picked him. As they faced Hyderabad on Monday, all eyes were on Rashid. While he had a poor outing with the ball, he made it up with the bat.
The 23-year-old scored an unbeaten 31 from just 11 balls. He struck two sixes in the last two balls of the game to script a spectacular win for the Gujarat-based franchise. After the completion of the match, he stated that he was happy to deliver against the orange army. He then drew light on the discussion he had with Rahul Tewatia during the last over.
"Feels good, to go there and have that self-belief and keep my shape stronger and hit it. Happy to deliver against Hyderabad, just trying to play my game and have that belief on my batting which I'm working from the last two years. When it was 22 left. I just told Tewatia that we have given 25 in the last over with one of our best bowler bowling and I told him that we needed to have that belief and not panic, anything is possible.
Just stay there, keep your shape and hit it strong and that was the plan (with Tewatia). I have bowled 4-5 bad deliveries which have been punished and that is something I had in my mind, you can't miss your line and length on a wicket like this," said Rashid Khan.
So far, the bowling all-rounder has scored 71 runs in this edition at a whopping strike rate of 197.22. When it comes to his bowling, Rashid has picked eight wickets in eight games at an average of 28.37. His economy rate is on the lower side as well (7.09). Thus, he is expected to play a key role in the upcoming games for the Hardik Pandya-led side.
