In a recent milestone in his illustrious ODI career, the veteran batter and Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma has become the highest run-scorer for India in the history of the Asia Cup, including both ODI and T20I format. He has surpassed the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar who played for India in the Asia Cup from 1990 to 2012 for a period of 22 years.
Rohit has been playing for India since the Asia Cup 2008 and it’s been 15 years since he made his first appearance in the tournament. He has scored 939 runs in 26 innings of the 28 matches, he played for India in the Asia Cup so far. The 36-year-old has scored these runs with an impressive average of 46.95, including a century and nine half-centuries to his credit.
Sachin Tendulkar, who is still the highest run-scorer for India in ODI Asia Cup, has scored 971 runs in 21 innings of the 23 matches, he played for the men in blue. In these matches, the master blaster scored the runs with an amazing average of 51.10, including two centuries and seven half-centuries.
Sanath Jayasuriya is still on top of the list of all-time leading run-scorers in the Asia Cup
Speaking of overall records, Sachin and Rohit are in the third and fourth spot, respectively in the list of all-time highest run-scorers in the history of the ODI Asia Cup. Former legendary Sri Lankan batting all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya is still the highest run-scorer of all time in the history of the continental tournament's ODI format. He scored 1220 runs in 24 innings of 25 matches with an outstanding average of 53.04, hitting six centuries and 3 half-centuries.
Jayasuriya is followed by his teammate and former Islanders skipper Kumar Sangakkara who scored 1075 runs in 23 runs in 23 innings of the 24 matches he appeared in. Sangakkara scored these runs with a very good average of 48.86, having 4 centuries and 8 half-centuries with the bat.
Coming back to Rohit Sharma, he will be back in action with Team India in the third ODI of the upcoming three-match series against Australia.
