Former Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh recently announced that he will donate his Rajya Sabha salary for the welfare and education of the daughters of farmers in India. He took to his Twitter handle to inform his fans about his contribution to the nation’s progress.

“As a Rajya Sabha member, I want to contribute my RS salary to the daughters of farmers for their education & welfare. I've joined to contribute to the betterment of our nation and will do everything I can. Jai Hind!” he tweeted.

For the unversed, Aam Aadmi Party included him as their Rajya Sabha member from Punjab. Harbhajan Singh is committed that he will fulfill his responsibility sincerely. Currently, Harbhajan Singh is doing commentary with Star Sports in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. He is part of the commentary panel for the ongoing season.

Harbhajan Singh recently grabbed headlines for his controversial comment on India’s 2011 World Cup-winning campaign. He stated that the team won that World Cup due to the entire team’s effort and not just because of MS Dhoni.

“When Australia wins the World Cup at that time everyone says ‘Australia won the World Cup’. When India wins the World Cup at that time, everyone said, ‘MS Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye the?,” said Harbhajan Singh while speaking on Star Sports. “What did the other 10 players do? What did Gautam Gambhir do? What did the others do?  It’s a team game. When 7-8 players play well only then only your team will progress”, he added.

Harbhajan Singh was also part of the India’s 2011 World Cup campaign. He picked 9 wickets in 9 matches at an economy of 4.48. In his illustrious career, Harbhajan Singh picked 417 wickets in 103 Tests at an average of 32.5.  Besides, he also claimed 269 wickets in 236 ODIs at 33.4.
