Eoin Morgan recently stated that the addition of Harbhajan Singh will add firepower to the KKR spin department. There is no doubt that KKR has plenty of quality spin bowlers in their squad. West Indian Sunil Narine and Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan are just a few of the lethal spinners in the Kolkata franchise. With the acquisition of Bhajji, KKR definitely has some of the strongest spinners on paper on their side. With such quality spinners on the side, Eoin Morgan feels his team will become a much stronger candidate than before.
KKR is scheduled to play 3 matches at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai. The stadium in Chennai is ideally suited for the spinners, who will look to take advantage of the same. Morgan concluded by stating that spinners could make a difference in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Harbhajan Singh has been a part of the Indian Premier League since its inception back in 2008. In 160 IPL matches, Harbhajan scalped a total of 150 wickets, with a bowling average of 26.44. Harbhajan’s best outing was in 2013, wherein he picked up 24 wickets in just 19 games. Bhajji was part of the CSK squad before he moved to KKR. Harbhajan was a part of Mumbai Indians before he joined CSK. Harbhajan had the best of times with the Mumbai franchise, winning 3 IPL trophies. With CSK, Harbhajan won 1 IPL trophy in the 2018 edition. Bhajji now aims to win an IPL trophy with the Kolkata franchise.
Possible problem areas of KKR’s spin bowling lineup
Even though KKR has star-studded bowling up, there are some problem areas that need attention. Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy is not absolutely fit as of this moment. Furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav is certainly not at his brilliant best. Yadav failed to shine with the ball in the international format. His wicketless outing against England in the ODI series clearly highlights that aspect of his bowling.
Harbhajan Singh has not played any competitive cricket since 2019. To make matters worse, Shakib Al Hasan has also been out of action for quite some time. Sunil Narine did not have a season to cherish in the IPL 2020. However, that being said, KKR does have plenty of quality and bowling options and will look to utilize the same.
