India Women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been on the receiving end of hard and fast-lined criticism since her on-field outburst in the third and last ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh. It happened when she expressed her anger and frustration with the umpire’s LBW decision by hitting the stumps with the bat.
Meanwhile, the media reports have learned that cricket’s governing body could take strict action on this behaviour of Harmanpreet Kaur. The possible action from cricket’s governing body might also put Team India’s Asian Games campaign in jeopardy as they could miss the services of Harmanpreet Kaur in the all-important continental competition.
“Harmanpreet's act could lead to a maximum of four demerit points, which comprises three for damaging equipment and one for publicly criticizing a match official. As per the rules of the governing body, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points in a period of 24 months, it would directly lead to suspension from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever appears next on the schedule,” reads a report by Cricbuzz.
Some Pathetic umpiring was done - Harmanpreet Kaur
The Indian skipper continued expressing her frustration even after the end of the match. She called out the umpiring standards and termed it ‘pathetic’ during the post-match presentation after the third ODI between India and Bangladesh ended in a tie.
"A lot of learning from this game. Even apart from the cricket, the type of umpiring happening there, we were shocked. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we'll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly, we'll have to prepare ourselves,” said Kaur during the post-match presentation.
"They <Bangladesh> batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between, we leaked a few runs but when we were batting, we controlled the game very well. But, as I mentioned earlier, some pathetic umpiring was done, and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” she added later.
