'He has been a very prolific scorer across formats' - Wasim Jaffer backs young Indian batter to be a part of Test squad against West Indies amidst pressure on senior players

After an unexpected failure of one of the mightiest batting attacks in World cricket, India faced a humiliating defeat by a big margin of 209 runs as they collapsed in both innings while batting against the Aussie bowling lineup. The veteran batters like Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma failed to live up to the expectations and couldn’t perform expectedly in the all-important clash of the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has come up with a suggestion for the Indian management to make some changes while going in the two-match Test series against West Indies. Although it might come up as unfavorable news for the Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara.

Jaffer batted for the young uncapped Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal who impressed everyone with his stellar batting performances throughout the entire edition of the Indian Premier League 2023. He scored 625 runs in the innings of the 14 matches, he played for Rajasthan Royals. He scored these runs with an impressive strike rate of 163.61 having an average of 48.08. In the 2023 edition of IPL, Jaiswal scored five half-centuries alongside a century with the wood.

Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer backed Jaiswal to be a part of the Test squad of India for the two-match Test series against West Indies.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal is definitely one of them. He has been a very prolific scorer across formats, whether you talk about the IPL, domestic cricket, or India A cricket. I think he needs to be a part of the squad," said Jaffer to Sportskeeda.

Here's what Wasim Jaffer said further about Yashasvi Jaiswal

"He was given an opportunity as well this time. He was a part of the team but Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were playing, so obviously he didn't get a chance. I feel he should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed, and as and when an opportunity comes, he should get a chance,” he added later.
