Shubman Gill sent all Indian fans crazy on 18 January 2023 when he scored 208 runs off 149 balls in Hyderabad against the Kiwis. It was the first game of the ongoing three-match ODI series. His innings ensured that the Men in Blue scored 349 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand fell short by only 12 runs while chasing that mammoth total.
Gill hit 19 fours and nine sixes throughout the innings. Shubman Gill won the player of the match award also for such a knock. After such a knock, the former team India all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh shared a tweet to praise the batter. However, Gill also gave credit to Yuvraj for helping him in improving his batting abilities.

"Yuvi paaji has been a mentor to me, like a big brother.” - Shubman Gill on Yuvraj Singh
Speaking of the tweet, Yuvraj Singh wrote: "200 in a one day game !! At such a young age incredible unbelievable!! A very proud day for me and shubmans dad !!!congratulations @ShubmanGill. The whole country is proud of you 🇮🇳 #NZvsIND."
Speaking about him in the post-match press conference, Shubman Gill said that Yuvraj Singh has been a mentor to him like a big brother. He said: "Yuvi paaji has been a mentor to me, like a big brother. During lockdown and after that as well, he kept talking to me about batting. My dad has been my primary coach since I started playing cricket. Making Yuvi paaji and my dad proud is a special feeling."
Gill also revealed that he wanted to play more shots sooner during that innings. But, wickets were tumbling at one end. Hence, he remained calm and waited for the right opportunities. “Once in England, I think I hit six sixes in seven balls. (Here) I was itching to unleash myself (earlier), but with wickets falling at regular intervals, it was important for me and this was the message from the dressing room that I have to bat till the end. I had to contain myself and play more in a safe way,” Shubman Gill concluded.
