Virat Kohli had a fruitful reign at the helm when he was the captain of India. India made it to the finals of the Champions Trophy in 2017 and to the semi-finals in World Cup 2019. The Indian team won back-to-back Test tours in Australia under Kohli's captaincy. This happened in 2018 and 2021. Under him, they also did well in England and had the Three Lions on the ropes at home and were leading 2-1. but lost the final Test which was rescheduled. The series ended in a draw.
In a tell-all interview, Kohli opened up about a lot of events in his life which was his captaincy stint, early childhood and also when he scored the 71st century. Kohli had a rough time in 2022. Then, the former Indian captain finally tasted some success in the Asia Cup 2022. He scored a maiden T20I hundred against Afghanistan. This was the turning point as he was also the second-highest scorer in that tournament behind Mohammad Rizwan.
When I scored my 71st hundred I laughed so hard - Virat Kohli
"I have no shame in accepting that I have made many mistakes when I was captain. But the one thing I know for sure is that I never did anything for my own selfish motives. That I can take guarantee from day 1 to the last day. I had one goal and that was to take the team forward. Failures will keep happening but intent was never in the wrong place," he said in an episode of Let There Be Sport on Disney Plus Hotstar while he elaborated on his captaincy stint.
"The ball before I got to the 100, is the time I felt, oh I am on 94, I could probably get this. And the next ball went for six. But the thing is that as soon as I go the 100, I laughed so hard. I was like, 'main iske liye ro raha tha 2 saal se?," Kohli added when he reached his 71st ton. Kohli then had a wonderful 20-20 World Cup in Australia where he was India's best batter.
βLike just for these 2 seconds, I let myself go through that? That moment happened, it ended. Next day, the sun goes up again. It wasn't going to be forever. It's not like I scored this 100, and I live this moment for the rest of my life. It was so funny, I laughed so hard. I was like, this is all that it,β In the interview, Kohli said he would be teary-eyed if he goes on to break Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI hundreds.

Shut all of your haters in this years WC and WTC final
Had he won the 2019 WC it would have been a totally different story. Intent, aggression is all well and good but ultimately as captain winning the big trophies is what matters the worst and sadly it didn't work in your tenure, there is no shame in that.
