Former South African batter Ashwell Prince has showered praise on young pacer, Marco Jansen, for not backing down from challenging his Indian counterpart Jasprit Bumrah in the just-concluded three-match Test series. Meanwhile, Prince also lauded Jansen for putting the country first over the franchise.
Both Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen had represented the five-time winners Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 but when both of them had donned their respective national jerseys, the former did not hesitate in making a statement to his senior.
Marco Jansen didn't back down: Ashwell Prince
In a series of tweets, Ashwell Prince explained how youngster Jansen did everything he could to challenge Jasprit Bumrah. He mentioned that the tall Proteas pacer did not back down once in his battle with the Team India pace spearhead but more importantly, the former did not think about the IPL and how it could affect his relationships with the people of that franchise as he put his country first and that is exactly how it should be.
14, 2022One more thing I particularly enjoyed during #SAvIND series, the fact that #MarcoJansen didn’t back down once in the battle with Bumrah! He didn’t think about the IPL and how it might affect his relationships with people there. He put his country 1st, the way it should be.

In his next tweet, the ex-Proteas middle-order batter congratulated Marco Jansen and urged him to never change himself. He concluded by mentioning that sport is about 'competing', not giving an inch, and upholding the spirit of the game and it's not just about the bank balances.
14, 2022Well done kid, don’t ever change. You be you and if people can’t respect you for being you, being competitive, putting your country 1st. That’s their problem. Sport is about competing, not giving an inch and upholding the spirit of the game. Not about bank balances. #lesson2youth

Nonetheless, Bumrah got his revenge in the very next game when he castled Jansen during the first innings as South Africa could not overhaul India's first innings lead of 223. The visitors set up a target of 212 runs which was successfully chased down by the Proteas on the penultimate day to seal the series 2-1.
