Hemang Amin wants the remainder of IPL 2021 to be held in UAE

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is considering both UAE and the UK as the venues to conduct the remaining IPL 2021 games. Overall, 29 games were conducted in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League. Thus, with 31 games remaining, the BCCI will need a small window of around three weeks to complete the tournament. BCCI CEO Hemang Amin has also reckoned that the cricket board will keep UAE as the preferred venue. However, they will consider the pros and cons that organisers would face if they are conducting the T20 league outside the country.

However, they will consider the pros and cons that organizers would face if they are conducting the T20 league outside the country.

Conducting the competition in September will mean Indian players get some white-ball practice before the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 18 to November 15. A final decision on the IPL venue is anticipated to be made in a few weeks. This means the Indian cricket board will have less than a month to wrap up the 14th IPL season. This also includes quarantine requirements and bio-bubble restrictions.

UAE is already a tried and tested model: Hemang Amin

According to a report in the Times of India, Hemang Amin has created two schedules, one for the UK and the other one for UAE. The schedules will be discussed at the Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29. The officials will discuss the upcoming cricket season in India, including the World Cup venue. The ICC is anticipated to take a call depending on the Covid-19 situation in India, which is severe currently. Having suggested the idea of conducting the 14th IPL season in UAE even before the tournament had begun, Amin believes the second half of the tournament should be taken to the UAE as it is already a tried and tested model.

It is noteworthy that the tournament was held without any problems back in 2020 at the UAE. Back then, Hemang Amin was praised for pulling the tournament off in a successful manner. According to TOI, Amin is anticipated to campaign for the UAE due to reasons like logistical ease as well as the risking of monsoon rains if the tournament is held in the UK. Furthermore, holding the tournament in England would lead to higher costs, whereas the UAE is already a tried and tested venue.
