The build-up to the ODI World Cup 2023 has witnessed a lot of players missing the place in the squad of their teams for the tournament.

The highly anticipated upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, in India is set to start with the tournament opener between the defending champions England and the runners-up of the last edition, New Zealand. Both teams will play this match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.

Meanwhile, the participating teams have faced a lot of injury hits just before the commencement of the tournament, which have also forced them to make last-minute changes in the squads. With said that, here we’ll have a look at the players of the various teams who couldn’t make it to the marquee international tournament due to their injuries.

Rishabh Pant – India

The star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had a horrific car accident in the wee hours of December 30, 2022. Since then, he has been undergoing recovery from multiple injuries, including a major injury in his right knee. Due to this, he had to miss several assignments for Team India. In the same line of events, Pant also missed making a cut in the India squad for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Anrich Nortje – South Africa

South Africa key pacer Anrich Nortje was in action with the side during the recently concluded five-match home ODI series against Australia. He was ruled out of the fourth and fifth ODI of the series that he sustained in the middle of the series. He was replaced by the young pacer Gerald Coetzee in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad of South Africa.

Due to that hamstring injury, he also missed the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023, where Sri Lanka lost to India in the final of the tournament.

The team will be playing in the tournament without their key pacer Dushmantha Chameera. Last time, he was in action with his side in the warm-up matches of the Cricket World Cup qualifiers 2023 in Zimbabwe. Later, he was ruled out due to some issues in the pectoral muscle.

Michael Bracewell – New Zealand

New Zealand were one of the sides who faced a couple of injury concerns in the World Cup year; it started with skipper Kane Williamson’s injury in the Indian Premier League 2023. Later, the star all-rounder Michael Bracewell also ruptured his right Achilles in the domestic T20 season of the UK. However, Kane Williamson recovered but Bracewell couldn’t recover completely and he couldn’t make his spot in the World Cup squad of New Zealand.

Naseem Shah - Pakistan

The young and sensational pacer of Pakistan, Naseem Shah was one of the key elements on which Pakistan would’ve counted in the ODI World Cup 2023. He was in action with the men in green during the Asia Cup 2023, completing the ferocious pace trio, alongside Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. Unfortunately, Naseem sustained an unexpected shoulder injury which first ruled him out of the Asia Cup 2023. Later, he was replaced by the senior pacer Hasan Ali in Pakistan’s squad for the 13th edition of the World Cup.
