The Indian team is all set to lock horns with South Africa in the first T20I at Thiruvananthapuram, today. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. There were several changes made to the Indian playing eleven but the one that shook the Indian fans the most was the news of Jasprit Bumrah sitting out of the match. Seamer Deepak Chahar has been brought in as a replacement for the pace spearhead.
The Indian Cricket Board also gave an update on Bumrah’s injury on Twitter. The Board tweeted, “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India's practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I.”

The 28-year-old, recently, made a comeback into the team in the second T20I against Australia after missing out from the Asia Cup due to back spasms. With the World Cup just 25 days away, Bumrah’s injury has become a cause of worry for the Indian team management and fans.
Indian bowling attack struggled big-time at the death without the services of their death-bowling specialist during the Asia Cup. The ‘Men-in-blue’ failed to defend totals against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in consecutive games which led to them being eventually knocked out of the continental cup.
The ongoing series will be India’s last assignment before the 20-20 World Cup. Team management will look to finalize the team combination and give much-needed game time to several players in the three-match series.
Apart from Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin has also been brought into the team in the first match in place of Yuzvendra Chahal. Ashwin was brought into the side for the T20I series against the West Indies and the spinner has once again made it to the squad for the 20-20 World Cup like last year. Arshdeep Singh also makes a comeback to the team after missing the Australia series.
The fans are hoping that Bumrah’s injury isn’t a major issue and the pace spearhead will be seen back on to field soon to get ready for the World Cup.
