The Lanka Premier League is gearing for the T20 tournament. One of the 5 participating teams, Colombo Kings, has appointed former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs as their head coach. Only a week is now left for the start of the tournament.
Dav Whatmore, the former Sri Lanka coach, was to head coach the Colombo Kings, but he backed out of the tournament because of personal reasons. After this, former England fast bowler Kabir Ali replaced Whatmore. However, Kabir Ali tested positive for Covid-19, and as a result, he withdrew from the league.
Furthermore, on Thursday, they roped in Herschelle Gibbs as their latest head coach. The former South Africa cricketer had flown to Sri Lanka for commentary duties in the LPL 2020 before Colombo Kings offered him the role. Along with Herschelle Gibbs, they have also appointed the former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath as the assistant coach for the team.
