Chennai and Hyderabad locked horns in the 46th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. Chennai was asked to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. This worked out well for the men in yellow as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave them the perfect start.

Both reached half-centuries and set up a solid platform for the team to post a big score. They added 182 runs together, recording this season's highest partnership. T Natarajan got the first breakthrough as he dismissed Gaikwad for 99 runs. Gaikwad hit six fours and six sixes in his 57 ball innings . MS Dhoni (eight) walked in at number three but could not add much. Conway scored 85 runs in 55 balls, with eight fours and four sixes and helped Chennai to 202-2 in their 20 overs.

Chasing a mammoth total, Hyderabad got a positive start. They scored 58 runs in the powerplay. However, two back to back wickets in the final over of powerplay derailed their chase. In the sixth over, Mukesh Choudhary struck the in-form batters Abhishek Sharma (39) and Rahul Tripathi (zero). Kane Williamson and Aiden Markram added quick 30 runs before Markram was dismissed for 17. Kane Williamson played a few good shots as Nicholas Pooran joined him. However, with run rate becoming steep, Kane played a rash shot and lost his wicket to Pretorious at a team score of 126.Β  Hyderabad needed a big finish from Pooran and Shashank SIngh. However, the big shots didn't come. Pooran hit a few sixes in the final over and reached his 50 but the match was over by then. Chennai eventually won the game by 13 runs.
