Over the years, the Indian T20 League has witnessed some iconic opening partnerships. As there have been several dynamic opening pairs in the cash-rich league, it isn’t surprising that they have been some memorable partnerships at the top as well.

Besides, every team needs their openers to deliver. So what are the highest opening partnerships in the history of the league? Today, we shall be taking a look at the top five highest opening partnerships in the Indian T20 League:

1) 210* – Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul vs Kolkata in 2022:

Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul showed no mercy on Kolkata. The 66th game of the 2022 edition saw the Lucknow openers unleash their best. De Kock was superb in particular.

He scored 140 from just 70 balls. He was well supported by Rahul, who scored a 51-ball 68. Thus, they added 210 runs for the first wicket.

2) 185 – Jonny Bairstow and David Warner vs Bangalore in 2019:

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow are arguably two of the most explosive players of this era. Thus, an unstoppable carnage was unleashed when they unlocked their full potential. The 2019 edition saw them hit boundaries for fun.

During Hyderabad’s game against Bangalore, the duo scored a 185-run partnership. While Bairstow scored 114 runs off 56 balls, Warner hit 100 runs from 55 balls.

3) 184* – Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn vs Gujarat in 2017:

During Kolkata’s game against the now-defunct Gujarat-based team, the two-time champions had to chase 184. In what was expected to be a tricky chase, Kolkata’s opener chased their target rather comfortably. Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir were absolutely phenomenal.

The Aussie batter scored a 41-ball 93. As for Gambhir, he scored 76 runs in 48 balls. Thus, they scored an unbeaten 184-run partnership.

4) 183 – Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul vs Rajasthan in 2020:

Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul are childhood friends and thus, they share a great bond. They played together for Punjab, and had several memorable partnerships. However, their 183-run partnership against Rajasthan was superb, to say the least.

It saw Agarwal get to his maiden Indian T20 League century as well. Rahul scored a half-century as well. However, their efforts went in vain as the 2008-champions won the game.

5) 182 – Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Hyderabad in 2022:

Devon Conway was one of the major positives for Chennai in the 2022 edition. He joined forces with Ruturaj Gaikwad to add 182 runs for the first wicket against Hyderabad. Both of them were absolutely fantastic.
