The Big Bash League (BBL 2021) is set to begin on December 10. The opening match will see the defending champions Sydney Sixers take on Hobart Hurricanes. Sydney Sixers defeated Melbourne Stars to win the trophy for the second time.
With the Big Bash League announcing changes in rules, there has been an ongoing debate regarding its necessity. Supporters see it as something that will bring more excitement whereas the critics believe it is plain futile.
In the 9 seasons of BBL, we have witnessed some stunning batting performances. Some players have managed to be on the consistent side of things almost every season.
Here we list the top 3 run-scorers in BBL history:
1. Chris Lynn (2332 runs)
On top of the list is Chris Lynn. The Aussie is the only player alongside Aaron Finch to score more than 2000 runs in BBL. In the 2019-20 season, Lynn smashed a total of 387 runs in just 14 games. He hit his only season's century against Hobart Hurricanes, a quickfire 101 off 55 balls. He was also the leading run-scorer in the 2015-16 season, smashing 378 runs in just a meager 8 matches. With an average of 150.35 throughout his BBL career, it is quite evident why Lynn is at the top.
2. Aaron Finch (2252 runs)
Only 80 runs behind Chris Lynn is Aaron Finch. Aaron Finch, in 63 matches, scored 2252 runs, averaging a terrific 38.82 per match. Finch was an inherent part of Melbourne Renegades this season. He scored 363 runs in just 9 games this season, including 1 fifty and 2 hundred.
His standout display this season was against Sydney Sixers when he smashed 109 runs in just 68 games. The aggressive Finch was also the second-highest run-getter in the 2012-13 season, amassing 354 runs in just 8 games.
3. Michael Klinger (1947)
With just 53 runs shy of the 2000 run mark, Michael Klinger is one who rose through the ranks in his BBL career. Not renowned in international cricket, Klinger has played 71 games in total, scoring 1947 runs with a decent average of 30.42.
Klinger was the highest run-getter in the BBL 2014-15 season, hitting 326 runs in just 10 games for Perth Scorchers. He was also the third-highest run-getter in the 2016-17 season, with 326 runs in just 10 innings.
His iconic display with the bat, when he hit a quickfire 71 off 49 balls to help Perth secure their 3rd BBL title was one fan will never forget.
