On March 23, Bangladesh beat South Africa by nine wickets to register their maiden ODI series win in South Africa. Both teams had come into the game with the series levelled 1-1. The visitors started the series with a 38 run-win over the hosts. South Africa then came back strong in the second game with a seven-wicket win.

The Proteas won the toss in the decider and elected to bat first. They had a decent start with an opening partnership of 46 runs in 6.5 overs. However, regular wickets in the middle overs meant they were bowled out for 154. Only five batters, Janneman Malan (39), Quinton de Kock (12), David Miller (16), Dwaine Pretorius (20), and Keshav Maharaj (28) could cross the double-figure mark.

For the Men in Green and Red, Taskin Ahmed took a five-wicket haul while Shakib Al Hasan took two. Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraj took one each. In reply, the Tamim Iqbal-led side chased down the target, losing only one wicket and 23.3 overs to spare. Iqbal (87*) and Litton Das (48) stitched the opening partnership of 127 runs in 20.5 overs. The latter was caught by Temba Bavuma off Maharaj.

After the game, Iqbal said that he is a proud man and thanked the current and past coaches for the work they did for the team.
"I am a very proud man, especially with a Bangladeshi fast bowler getting a five-for, winning the series [for us] and winning the Player of the Series award. The coaches - even past coaches - have done a tremendous job. This is massive. It is a massive achievement for us seniors. I will rate this at the top. When we are touring, we can win games and series," the Bangladesh skipper said.
