How can India become the No.1 ranked Test team?

The Indian cricket team can soon become the number one Test team in the world if the Border Gavaskar series goes their way. However, New Zealand can go at the top if they win their series against Pakistan. Both Australia and India can also replace them if either wins the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series.

The Indian cricket team can soon become the number one Test team in the world if the Border Gavaskar series goes their way. However, New Zealand can go at the top if they win their series against Pakistan. Both Australia and India can also replace them if either wins the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series.

ICC Test rankings points for the teams are calculated at the end of the series as the New Zealand vs Pakistan series is expected to end before India vs Australia series. All the cricket fans can witness the title change multiple times in the forthcoming weeks. The following month can see either Team India, Australia or New Zealand leading the way to No.1 spot.

Here’s how team India can become the No.1 Test team in the world.

India must win the Border-Gavaskar series

The visitors are at present spotted third in the ICC Test rankings with 114 points. If the Indian side wins the remaining two Tests, they will retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy and become the No.1 Test team.

A 3-1 victory against Australia will take India to 119 points. The points will be enough for India to get to the summit. However, if the Kiwis are successfully drawing their series 1-1 or even a 2-1 win will be enough. Team India will lead the table if New Zealand vs Pakistan series ends in a 1-0 victory.

How can New Zealand become the number one Test team?

The black caps are likely to go to the top of the Test rankings for the first time in their history. New Zealand is currently 0.1 rating point behind Australia in 1st place. They will have either draw or a win in the second and final Test against Pakistan. The victory will get them 118 points whereas a draw would take them to 117.

Australia also has a chance to stay on top

India and New Zealand are not the only two teams fighting for 1st place. Like the men in blue, Australia can also get to the top if they record a 3-1 win against India. If Australia wins the series, then they will end up with 121 points.

A 2-1 series will also be sufficient for Tim Paine’s men to sustain their status as the No.1 ranked Test side. However, if the Border Gavaskar series ends in a draw and New Zealand win their series against Pakistan, then the kangaroos will lose the No.1 Test team label.
