In 2014, the Indian women’s team played their last test match at home as well. The match was against the South African women’s team. The one-off Test was played in the Gangotri Glades Cricket Ground at Mysore from November 16 to 19. Mithali Raj was the captain of the Indian team while Mignon du Preez led the South African team.

What happened when the Indian women’s team faced the South African team in the 2014 one-off Test?

The Indian women’s team elected to bat first after winning the toss. Thirush Kamini and Punam Raut made 192 runs and 130 runs respectively to put a target of 400 for the loss of six wickets. A 275 run partnership was stitched between Kamini and Raut to ensure the Indian team gets to put a chalking target on board.

South African off-spinner Sunette Loubser picked the three crucial wickets of Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jhulan Goswami in the first innings.

Nevertheless, India managed to bundle out the South African team for 234. South African captain Mignon du Preez made a century while Trisha Chetty scored a half-century during the first innings.

Harmanpreet Kaur led the bowling attack from the Indian side with a five-wicket haul. Rajeshwari Gayakwad also picked up four wickets including the wicket of Mignon du Preez.

In the second innings as well, Indian bowlers gave an exceptional performance. India managed to bowl out the African team for 132 runs with Harmanpreet Kaur picking up four wickets. Jhulan Goswami and Poonam Yadav picked up two wickets each while Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Shikha Pandey each had one scalp to their name.

The Indian women’s team won the one-off Test against South Africa by an innings and 34 runs.
