All teams of the Indian T20 League are gearing up for the next season. On 15 November 2022, all franchises submitted their retained and released players list to the Board. Now, they will be in action again on 23 December for the proposed mini-auction in Kochi.

However, Hugh Edmeades was the auctioneer in the last auction of this tournament. He took the duties over from Richard Madley in 2018. Madley was conducting the auction of that tournament since the inauguration. Now, ahead of the next auction, Edmeades confirmed his availability.

“I am excited about visiting Kochi for the first time,” - Hugh Edmeades ahead of the mini-auction of the Indian T20 League 2023

While speaking to Sportstar on 29 November 2022, Edmeades said that he is thrilled to go to Kochi for the auction. He said: “I am thrilled to have been asked by the Indian Cricket Board to conduct the 2023 Indian T20 League auction and am excited about visiting Kochi for the first time.”

However, he got involved in an unwanted situation during the conduction of the auction last time. He collapsed on the floor in the ballroom of the ITC Gardenia hotel due to “postural hypotension”. It happened on the first day of the mega-auction in Bengaluru in February 2022. After that, the Board requested Charu Sharma to conduct the auction. Meanwhile, he made a comeback to conduct the final phase of the auction.

However, there are several reports are circulating that the Indian T20 League 2023 auction might get rescheduled. According to close sources to the development, franchises are looking to request the Indian Cricket Board to reschedule the event. The mini-auction is set to take place in Kochi on December 23, just two days before Christmas. So, franchises might not have the services of their foreign support staff. They would be on a holiday. So, all teams will look for a rescheduled date when they can have the attendance of most of their personnel. However, it will only depend on the Board whether they will decide to change it or not.
