In the 64th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Punjab Kings hosted Delhi Capitals in the reverse fixture between the two. Ahead of the game, the 2014 finalists, the Kings were coming off a win against the same side last week. On the other hand, the Capitals were looking to salvage some pride in the tournament. PBKS needed a win to remain alive in the playoff race.

In the game, the home team won the toss and elected to bowl first. After all, there was something in the wicket for pacers and dew factors also influenced the decision. For the first three overs, the Red Army bowled well as they only conceded 18 runs. Not to forget, Kagiso Rabada bowled a difficult over to face during this stage. However, he conceded 17 runs in the fourth over to open up the scoring for the opposition.

Thanks to half-centuries from Prithvi Shaw (54) and Rilee Rossouw (82*) and valuable contributions from skipper David Warner (47) and Phil Salt (26*), the 2020 finalists reached 213/2 at the end of the innings. For the Mohali-based side, Sam Curran took both wickets.

Delhi Capitals might have spoilt Punjab Kings' party

In reply, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side had a poor start in the chase. After playing the maiden over the first over, the team lost the wicket of their skipper to Ishant Sharma in the second over. In the first three overs, the team could only manage 10 runs. However, the likes of Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide started getting some boundaries. From 10/1 in three overs, the team reached 51/2 in seven overs, losing the wicket of Singh in the seventh over.

Now, the likes of Taide and Livingstone put together 78 runs for the third wicket. Despite the visitors dropping two catches and missing a run-out chance, the former struggled with the bat and couldn't punish the opposition. Before the beginning of the 16th over, Taide decided to retire out after getting 55 off 42 balls. Despite Liam Livingstone's (94) best efforts, the team lost the game by 15 runs.
