Saudi Arabian football has always been in the news ever since Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo moved to the Middle East. They have been acquiring world-class players with lucrative deals and gaining global attention. Meanwhile, a recent video circulating on social media shows that not only the Gulf nation or their football clubs, but even the fans have deep pockets.
While it's nothing new for players to gift their jerseys, kits or other belongings to fans, it's rare for a fan to gift a player. But Saudi fans have turned things around. A video of a fan gifting former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho a gold Rolex watch has gone viral on social media, leaving other football fans shocked. Fabinho moved from the Premier League giants to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad last month for a reported fee of £40 million ($50.7 million) on a three-year deal.
The Brazilian international made his debut for the Jeddah-based club on Monday (August 14) against Al-Raed in the 2023-24 season opener and produced a strong performance in his side's stunning 3-0 win. A fan claiming to be a journalist who was fascinated by Fabinho's debut approached the footballer after the match and presented him with a luxury watch.
The 29-year-old was blown away by the gesture as he reacted, "Come on, really?". But as the midfielder walked off after thanking the supporter, the watch fell to the ground but was undamaged.

Fabinho is one of the top players that shifted to Saudi Arabia during this transfer window. He is now playing alongside European stars Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kanté and Diogo Jota. The recent arrival in the Saudi Pro League is Brazilian striker Neymar, who left Paris Saint-Germain to join Al Hilal in a massive deal.
After joining Al-Ittihad, Fabinho wrote an emotional note to the English club stating, "In these five years, I grew as a player, as a man, I made dreams come true… Thanks to Liverpool, I played in the best stadium in the world, with the best atmosphere in the world, which is Anfield. Thanks to Liverpool, I lived the biggest match of my life, the comeback against Barcelona, which was only possible thanks to Anfield. That moment will always be in my memory."
Here's how Twitter reacted to Al-Ittihad fan gifting Fabinho a Rolex watch:
