Professional Football in Australia returns on July 16. The remaining matches of the Hyundai A-League will begin with the game between Melbourne Victory and Western United at the AAMI Park in Melbourne.

The new schedule of play includes the remaining 27 matches of the regular season in a 28-day period.

Sydney FC are the favourites to lift the trophy

With an 8-point lead over Melbourne City, Sydney FC has been cruising in the Hyundai A-League this season. Both teams are in place to qualify directly to playoff semifinals, while the fight for the remaining 4 spots remains wide open. Only 3 points separate Newcastle Jets (9th) from Western United (6th).

Teams return to training June 17

Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirmed that Hyundai A-League teams will be free to begin training on June 17. This measure follows the successful completion of multiple COVID-19 tests and the implementation of operational plans that minimize the risk of infection for players and club staff.

It’s still uncertain if the matches will have people in the stands. However, Australia’s Primer Minister, Scott Morrison, left the door open for the fans, by admitting that stadiums with capacities of 40,000 people or fewer could host up to 10,000 people.
